Water is usually the product, not the fuel
Burning hydrogen or using it in a fuel cell combines hydrogen with oxygen and produces water while releasing energy. Electrolysis runs the reaction the other way: it uses energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.
That makes hydrogen a storage medium or carrier. If electricity from solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, or the grid makes hydrogen, the energy source is upstream. The water is feedstock, not a source of surplus energy.
Electrolysis claims need complete accounting
An HHO or water-fuel-cell claim must count electrical input to the electrolyzer, gas production rate, gas composition, pressure, temperature, water consumption, electrolyte chemistry, heat, and downstream engine or fuel-cell output.
A credible test also separates useful output from improved combustion tuning. If an engine appears to use less gasoline with an added electrolyzer, the test must measure alternator load, battery state, fuel flow, exhaust composition, and driving cycle repeatability.
Patent records are claims to inspect
Stanley Meyer patent records are often used online as proof that a water-fuel device worked. A patent record is better treated as a claim document: read what is asserted, identify what is measured, and then ask for independent energy-balance data.
The same rule applies to newer patents and videos. The evidence question is not whether a drawing exists. It is whether controlled measurements show net useful output after all electricity, chemical change, stored energy, and uncertainty are counted.
Hydrogen research is real without over-unity
None of this dismisses hydrogen research. Electrolyzers, fuel cells, hydrogen storage, synthetic fuels, and industrial decarbonization are serious fields. They do not require the claim that water is a source of free energy.
The productive framing is: what low-carbon source makes the hydrogen, at what efficiency and cost, with what storage losses, and for which end use? That belongs with legitimate energy research, not perpetual motion.

Can a car run on water alone?
Not through ordinary electrolysis. Splitting water requires energy input, and hydrogen made that way stores energy that came from elsewhere.
Does the Stanley Meyer patent prove over-unity?
